Prayer for Aging Parents

For adult children watching their parents grow older and frailer.

“Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth.”

Psalm 71:9 (KJV)

Lord, my parents are getting older. I see them slowing down, forgetting more and struggling with things that used to be easy. It is hard to watch.

Protect their health. Keep them safe from falls, sickness and loneliness. Give them joy and purpose in this season.

Give me wisdom about how to help, when to step in and when to let them keep their independence. Help my siblings and me work together well.

Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth. Never forsake them, Lord.

Help me honor them with patience and love, and treasure the time we have together. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Short prayer to remember

Lord, do not forsake my parents in their old age. Help me honor them. Amen.
