Prayer for a Child Leaving for College

For move-in day, the empty bedroom and the drive home without them.

“The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”

Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)

Lord, my child is leaving for college. I have prepared for this day for years, but now that it is here, my heart aches.

Go with them. Help them find good friends, a good church and mentors who will guide them. Help them study well, manage their time and money, and take care of their health.

Protect them from harm and from choices that could hurt them. When they feel lonely or homesick, comfort them.

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: the LORD make His face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: the LORD lift up His countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. I speak this blessing over my child now.

Help me adjust to this new season and trust You with their future. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Short prayer to remember

The Lord bless you and keep you, my child. Amen.
