Prayer Before Chemotherapy Treatment

For the morning of a chemo session, whether it is the first round or the tenth.

“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”

Isaiah 43:2 (KJV)

Lord, today I sit in the chair again and the medicine starts to flow. Let it find and destroy every cancer cell and leave my healthy body as untouched as possible. Guard me from nausea, infection and the deep tiredness that follows.

Thank You for the oncology nurses who are so kind, and for the researchers whose work made this treatment possible. Give my doctors wisdom about every dose and every scan.

When I look in the mirror and do not recognize myself, remind me that I am still Yours and still loved. When I feel weak, be my strength. When I feel alone, sit with me.

You promised that when I pass through the waters, You will be with me, and the rivers will not overflow me. Walk with me through this treatment, through the good days and the hard ones.

Bless the people sitting in the chairs next to me today. Give each of us hope. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Short prayer to remember

When I pass through the waters, You are with me. Carry me through today. Amen.

Can I pray this for a friend in treatment?

Yes. Pray it in their name, and consider sending it to them as a text so they know you are praying.
