Prayer for Grief During the Holidays

For Christmas, Thanksgiving and holidays with an empty chair at the table.

“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”

Matthew 5:4 (KJV)

Lord, the holidays are here, and someone I love is missing. The decorations, songs and gatherings remind me of them.

Help me get through these days. Give me permission to grieve and also to enjoy what I can.

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Comfort me, Lord.

Help my family make room for both sadness and joy. Let us remember our loved one with love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Short prayer to remember

Blessed are those who mourn. Comfort me this holiday, Lord. Amen.
