Prayer for Social Anxiety Before a Party

For when an invitation fills you with dread and you are not sure you can walk through the door.

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)

Lord, I have a party tonight and I am already nervous. I worry about what to say, who I will talk to, and whether I will feel awkward and alone in the room.

Give me courage to go and to stay. Help me remember that most people are thinking about themselves, not judging me. Lead me to one kind person I can talk to.

Give me something to ask and a genuine interest in others. Help me listen well and laugh easily.

You have not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Let that be true in me tonight.

If I need to step outside for a minute, help me breathe and come back in. And let me leave tonight glad that I went. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Short prayer to remember

You gave me power, love and a sound mind. Walk in with me tonight, Lord. Amen.
