Prayer for a Baby in the NICU

For parents with a tiny baby in the neonatal intensive care unit.

“And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.”

Mark 10:16 (KJV)

Jesus, You took little children in Your arms and blessed them. Please take our baby in Your arms right now. This little one is so small, surrounded by wires and beeping machines, and we can only touch through the plastic.

Help their lungs grow strong and their heart beat steady. Help them feed, gain weight and keep warm. Protect them from infection and every complication. Let each day bring one more good sign.

Give the NICU nurses and doctors great skill and gentle hands. Thank You for every person who cares for our child when we have to go home without them.

Lord, we are tired and scared. Some days we do not know whether to hope or to brace ourselves. Hold us up. Give us rest when we can sleep and peace when we cannot.

We long for the day we carry our baby out of these doors. Until then, we place this precious child in Your hands. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Short prayer to remember

Jesus, take our baby in Your arms and bless them today. Amen.
