Prayer for a Friend Who Is Grieving

For when someone you love is mourning and you do not know what to say.

“Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.”

Romans 12:15 (KJV)

Lord, my friend is grieving, and I do not know how to help. I do not want to say the wrong thing.

Comfort them in ways I cannot. Hold them in the long nights.

Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Help me weep with them and simply be present.

Show me practical ways to help, a meal, a message, a visit. Help me keep showing up after the funeral is over. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Short prayer to remember

Lord, comfort my friend and help me weep with them. Amen.
